The Gym at Comber

If you want to feel good about yourself and enjoy a healthy work life balance our gyms are the place for you. 

The main gym, located on the first floor, offers state-of-the-art fitness and functional training equipment, that caters for all level and abilities. Our instructors are on hand to provide you with professional help, advice and encouragement and a tailored exercise programme to help you achieve your goals.
The Conditioning Gym, located on the ground floor, is dedicated to heavy resistance equipment for advanced muscle and strength training. New in November 2025 is the FITT Pod, an interactive private training space.

Both gyms are available throughout the centre opening hours with no pre-booking required. Anyone 11 years and over may use the gyms, however restrictions apply to Juniors (11 to 15 year olds). See the FITT Pod section for terms of use.

FITT Pod

Located in the Conditioning Gym, the FITT Pod is your very own interactive private training space. 

It’s the ultimate private training area with everything required to complete a full body workout with no interruptions. Fully equipped with programmable workout routines and all the training equipment needed to carry it out. Follow your own programme or input your training requirements for a tailored programme to your specific timescale, equipment preference, muscle groups or cardio requirements.

The screen will demonstrate form, count reps and allocate rest time between sets. The Pod features full length mirrors to keep an eye on your form. The system pairs up with your Technogym App to record your workouts and set your personal best or keep track of your routines.

The FITT Pod is bookable in 45 minute sessions for up to 2 people. Use of the pod is included in Fitness membership. Non members will be charged £9.75. Accompanying members and non members must check in and pay at reception before using the pod. Users must be 16 years or over. Junior members are not permitted to use the pod.

FITT Pod sessions can be booked online via the Leisure AND App or online services. Up to two sessions may be booked consecutively.

Booking will become available at 12 noon on Monday 10 November via the App and online services.

Bookings are non refundable under any circumstances and subject to the Leisure Ards and North Down Admissions Policy.

Junior Gym

Juniors must be aged 11 to 15 years old and have a Fitness and Spa, Fitness (including Comber only) or Child add on membership to use the main gym only and must have an Induction before using the gym, during which an adult must be present.

Junior members may only use the gym at Junior gym times, unless accompanied by an adult, 18 years or over, who is also a fitness member. 
Junior members are not permitted to use the Conditioning Gym or FITT Pod.

Inductions

Everyone new to the gym must have a Quick Start Induction. Inductions can be booked via the Leisure AND App, online, in the gym or at reception and are free of charge for Fitness members.

The 45-minute induction will show you key pieces of equipment to get you up and running, including how to use them safely. You will be shown:

  • 3 Cardiovascular machines with Unity 3 screens
  • SKILL MILL
  • 2 pin and 2 plate loaded pieces of Resistance equipment

A range of all-inclusive memberships for adults and juniors are available and non-members may also use the gyms.

Using our Gym

  • Before using a gym, users must read and sign (or tick online) our Health Commitment Statement.
  • Every new fitness member must undergo the initial Quick Start Induction. If you wish to use the gym before your Quick Start Induction, you must sign the Guest Register at reception on each visit.
  • Casual users who wish to waive their induction must sign the Guest Register at reception on every visit.
  • All Juniors (11 to 15-year-olds) must have a Fitness and Spa, Fitness (including Comber or Portaferry only) or Child add on membership and have an induction before using the gym at which a parent/guardian must be present to sign the induction checklist at the time of the Junior’s induction. Junior members are not permitted to use pin loaded machines or free weights, only body weight exercises i.e. chin ups, press ups etc. After four weeks, Juniors may book in for a Junior Strength Induction where they will be shown a variety of pin loaded machines that they can use safely and correctly.
  • All gym users must scan their card or book at reception, or where applicable, scan their card at the gym entrance before using the gym.
  • Daily wristband (if issued) must be worn at all times whilst in the gym.
  • Do not do any exercise or use equipment that you are unsure of, speak to a member of the gym staff for guidance.
  • Customers are expected to dress appropriately for the activity they are taking part in. Training shoes must be worn at all times.
  • Customers are responsible for their personal belongings and should use the lockers provided to store kit bags and personal belongings. Kit/training bags are not permitted in the gym.
  • For health and safety reasons and to protect the equipment, avoid dropping equipment e.g. dumbbells, kettlebells, or barbells on the floor. Once you have finished with any weights, please return them to their appropriate place.
  • Wipe down machines after use with the spray and blue roll provided.
  • Use spotters in the free weights area when needed. Staff can assist with this if asked.
  • No loitering between sets, be respectful to other members and be open to super-setting with other members and sharing equipment between sets. Be aware that other users may be waiting to use free weights.
  • Any drinks taken into the gym must be in plastic bottles.
  • Only Personal Trainers employed by Ards and North Down Borough Council are permitted to offer Personal Training in the gym.
  • Customers requiring advice around health and fitness should speak to the gym staff who will be happy to provide appropriate assistance and guidance.
  • Limit your time on cardiovascular machines to 20 minutes at busy times.
  • If you feel unwell at any time, stop exercising immediately and inform a member of staff.
  • On occasions, staff may carry out random checks on memberships to ensure the gym is being used by the appropriate people. Please don’t be offended if you are asked for your proof of membership.
  • For safeguarding purposes, taking photographs or videos is not permitted in the gym.
