Orienteering

Have a go with virtual orienteering.

Have a go at virtual orienteering at Cairn Wood or Whitespots Country Park and the Leadmines with the easy to use MapRun app.

Learn about virtual orienteering from this handy guide from British Orienteering

To start download the MapRun app and print a map from the selection at the bottom of this page.

Open MapRun, use the “Select Event” option and look in the UK > Northern Ireland folder. You can also wait until you are at the location and search for “Events Near Me“, you should be able to see and select your course.

Choose a good time, bearing in mind that orienteering is for everyone. Watch out for traffic in the car park and respect other pedestrians and cyclists. Due to risk from traffic, under 16s who wish to use the urban courses should be accompanied by an adult.

Linear courses have check points called 'controls' which must be collected in order with no time limit. Go as fast as you like or take your time. Your time, your pace, your adventure!

After you have finished you should be able to see the results and tracks of others too!
